You Have Options
Many women who have experienced abortion in the past feel differently when facing another unplanned pregnancy. Whether it’s emotional, physical, or spiritual reasons that are leading you to say, “Not again,” your feelings are valid—and you deserve to make a pregnancy decision you feel comfortable with.
Your other pregnancy options include parenting and adoption, and while only you can make this decision, learning all you can will help you ensure you make the right decision for you.
Parenting
Parenting may feel overwhelming, especially if you’re concerned about finances, relationships, or your readiness. However, the most important question to ask yourself is this: Do I want to parent? If even a little part of you says yes, then you owe it to yourself to fully explore this option.
When thinking about parenting, the following questions can help you sort through what you’re feeling:
- What concerns me most about parenting?
- What excites me about the idea of parenting?
- What support systems are in place to help me parent?
- If I don’t have a support system, where can I find it?
- What would it look like to accomplish my goals while parenting?
At Pregnancy Care Center, we can help you find answers to these questions and provide practical resources like parenting classes, baby supplies, and referrals for additional support.
Adoption
If you don’t think parenting is a possibility right now, adoption is another option that gives your child a future.
Adoption is centered on an adoption plan, which outlines the type of communication you’d like to have with the adoptive family and child. There are three main types of adoption plans:
- Open adoption: You maintain ongoing contact through visits, phone calls, or updates.
- Semi-open adoption: Communication is managed through the agency, often through photos or letters.
- Closed adoption: No contact is maintained, and your identity remains confidential.
Whatever option you choose, adoption gives you the power to decide what’s best for you and your baby.
