STI Testing
Sexual activity can lead to many things, like pregnancy, infections, and ultimately, serious diseases. If you’re sexually active, especially with multiple partners, protect your health by getting tested regularly for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
STIs/STDs often go undiagnosed because they may not have immediate symptoms. Or due to embarrassment, fear, or anger, some people simply refuse to get tested. Your sexual health needs to be as important as your physical and oral health.
Free STI Testing
The Pregnancy Care Center believes everyone should have access to STI testing without the cost or the concern of visiting the doctor. We provide free, confidential, and discreet STI/STD testing for women.
We test for gonorrhea and chlamydia.. If you test positive, we also offer free treatment for gonorrhea and chlamydia, two of the more common STIs. Don’t wait. Begin taking care of your sexual health with free and confidential testing, treatment, and personal consultation. Make an appointment today.
STIs and Abortion
If you’ve discovered you’re unexpectedly pregnant and are considering abortion, you need to get tested first. Having an abortion with an undiagnosed STI, like chlamydia or gonorrhea, can possibly lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
PID is an infection in a woman’s reproductive organs. If left untreated, it could lead to the formation of scar tissue in the fallopian tubes, an ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside of the uterus), infertility, and long-term abdominal pain.
Some of the Symptoms
STIs can have a range of signs and symptoms or no symptoms at all. A lack of symptoms may cause the STI to go unnoticed until complications occur or a partner is diagnosed. Chlamydia is called the “silent” disease because most infected people never have any symptoms.
According to the Mayo Clinic, you may experience the following signs and symptoms with certain STIs:
- Sores or bumps on the genitals or in the oral or rectal area
- Painful or burning urination
- Discharge from the penis
- Unusual or odorous vaginal discharge or vaginal bleeding
- Pain during sex
The Most Common STIs
There are at least 25 types of STIs. Here is a list of the more common ones:
- Human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause genital warts or even lead to cervical cancer
- Chlamydia can lead to PID
- Gonorrhea can lead to PID
- HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)/AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) infects cells of the immune system
- Syphilis can make it easier to contract HIV
- Bacterial vaginosis (BV) can also make it easier to contract HIV
